Discover Latvia with great vehicles

Explore Latvia’s most beautiful landscapes in a motorhome

Latvia – like the Baltic States in general – has become an increasingly popular destination for travellers in recent years. This trend can also be observed among motorhome holidaymakers. And for good reason. Despite its comparatively compact size, the country has varied landscapes and not least its Baltic Sea coastline, which is well worth seeing. That’s why we take a look at how travellers can experience Latvia in a motorhome and what they need to bear in mind.

Basically, the conditions for a road trip through the country are good. An advantage in terms of camping holidays is that Latvia has a relatively dense network of campsites. Compared to other countries, these are usually rather rustic and simply equipped. However, many campgrounds have modernised their facilities in recent years or are still in the process of doing so. For travellers, it is an advantage that many campsites in Latvia can (still) be booked comparatively cheaply. Many are particularly attractive because of their location.

Numerous campsites are located – separated only by dunes – on Baltic Sea beaches. Others are located on rivers or lakes.

What they all have in common is that they are located in picturesque settings. Some examples of campsites in Latvia are given below.

From a driving perspective, it should be noted that some of Latvia’s roads are in need of improvement. Especially far from the main routes and larger centres, roads can be dilapidated or riddled with potholes – or more like gravel roads. This does not necessarily have to be a problem, but you should allow for a little more driving time than elsewhere. In addition, a cautious driving style is required when travelling by motorhome on partly unpaved roads.

Latvia is home to a total of four national parks, which are located in different regions of the country. Probably the best known of these is the Gauja National Park. Its area to the north-east of Riga is characterised by its particularly varied nature.
