Experience the Czech Republic by motorhome

Some of the Czech landscapes are even spectacular. Take Bohemian Switzerland in the north-west of the country, for example. If you are on a motorhome holiday in the Czech Republic, this region should not be missed if possible. Sandstone cliffs form some wild formations here. Hiking, climbing, boating or mountain biking are particularly good ways to explore this area.

The same applies to the so-called 'Bohemian Paradise'. The sandstone there forms veritable rock cities and deep gorges. You can see this for yourself at the Prachau Rocks, for example. The Hrubá Skála castle is also worth a visit. The highest points in the region take you up to around 750 metres. Spectacular views are guaranteed.

You can go even higher in the Giant Mountains. The area in the north of the Czech Republic offers countless fantastic hiking routes. The Schneekoppe - the highest mountain in the country - towers around 1,600 metres above sea level.

Picturesque capital city of Prague

The capital city of Prague attracts visitors from all over the world. This is hardly surprising, as the historic old town is bursting with sights. These include Charles Bridge, which has connected the Old Town with Prague's Lesser Town since the 14th century and is a popular photo motif every day. Situated high above the city, the castle is considered one of the largest castle complexes in the world. The central square in the Old Town is also worth a visit. In addition to historic and colourful facades, you will also come across the world-famous Astronomical Clock. Numerous picturesque alleyways, parks and viewpoints enchant visitors to Prague all year round.

When you hire motorhomes in the Czech Republic, you pick up your vehicle in Prague. This makes it particularly easy to combine this part of your trip with a visit to the city.

Lots of culture and history

The Czech Republic is home to more picturesque castles and palaces than almost any other country. Many of them can be found throughout the country. Visitors love Karlštejn Castle, for example, which dates back to the 14th century. It was commissioned by Emperor Charles IV and is located around 20 kilometres southwest of Prague. Křivoklát Castle is even older, dating back to the 12th century. The royal castle is located around 60 kilometres west of the capital.

If you are on a motorhome holiday in the Czech Republic, you will find Loket Castle in a particularly attractive location in the west. It sits enthroned in the middle of a bend in the river, surrounded by hilly landscapes. The location of Bezděz Castle in the north of the country is similarly spectacular. The 12th century building served as a source of inspiration for Czech artists. Today, visitors can enjoy the view of the surrounding area.

On the other hand, you can also enjoy the holiday factor. The more relaxed you are on your motorhome tour in Canada, the more time you will have at each location. This allows you to prioritise various activities or relaxation much more effectively.

Discover the Czech Republic in a motorhome

Many regions in the Czech Republic are suitable for multi-day round trips by motorhome. Here we present some sample routes, each designed for five nights. You can of course combine the trips as you wish. It is also possible to add other regions.

Bohemian Switzerland with the campervan

After picking up your campervan in Prague, head directly north. Around two hours' drive will take you to 'Camping Mezni Louka' in Bohemian Switzerland. From there, you can go on a hike through unique rocky landscapes. For example, the famous Pravcicka Gate, a huge rock arch, can be reached on foot. After two nights on site, the round trip in the campervan only takes you a few places further. Jetřichovice is the destination of the day. There are also excellent hiking routes from there. For example, you can visit the impressive viewpoints of Mariina skála (Marienfels) or Vilemínina stěna (Wilhelminenwand). For the next overnight stay, you can use the 'Camping Česká brána', among others.

The last section through Bohemian Switzerland by motorhome then leads to the westernmost foothills of the region. There you can visit the Tyssa Walls - a gorge made of rocks - for example. There are also other excellent hiking opportunities through the wooded and hilly terrain. The landscape is particularly colourful in the autumn months. The last overnight stay can be at the 'Autokemp Pod Císařem'. From there, it is only a few minutes' walk to the Ostrov Rocks.

Around Prague by motorhome

If you want to focus more on places worth seeing in the Czech Republic, this route is ideal. From Prague, drive around 150 kilometres to the west, where you will come across Karlovy Vary. This sophisticated city is known for its healing springs and one or two architectural highlights. These include the colonnades and hotel complexes famous from film history. The 'Camping Amerika' around 50 kilometres south-west of the city is ideal for a two-night stay.

The town of Mariánské Lázně is also an excellent base from which to explore. This spa town delights visitors with its magnificent spa architecture and extensive parks. There are also many wooded areas and well-developed cycle paths around the town. So you have plenty of options for sporting activities. After two days and nights on site, the round trip takes you to another city worth seeing: Pilsen is around 120 kilometres away. Not only beer experts will have heard of it. The 'Ostende Bolevák' campsite close to the city can serve as a base for two days or one night. In Pilsen itself, it is worth visiting the local brewery and the historic old town with St Bartholomew's Cathedral.

From Pilsen, the Czech Republic motorhome round trip takes you back to Prague. To visit the aforementioned sights at your leisure, you can spend two nights on site. These can be spent at 'Caravan Camping Praha', for example. This campsite impresses with its good facilities and proximity to the city centre.
