Experience Iceland by motorhome

There is a lot to discover in Iceland (many locals prefer the "in" to "on"). With just under 330,000 inhabitants, the country has a population similar to that of Bielefeld or Bonn. Perhaps it is the sparse population, coupled with scenic highlights, that makes this Nordic country so appealing. Of course, it is possible to explore Iceland's most beautiful corners when hiring a motorhome. In the following, we reveal how to explore Iceland's most beautiful places when hiring a motorhome. Special features of the island Visiting Iceland by motorhome means exploring a unique country with geological features, including entire volcanic landscapes, hot springs and geysers. Iceland also boasts impressive waterfalls, glaciers and fjords. The geographical location also allows for the observation of the Northern Lights, which should be on every bucket list. Icelandic culture is also rich in history and legends, with a language that has hardly changed over time.

Discover Iceland in a motorhome

The majority of social life in Iceland takes place in the western region of the country - around the capital Reykjavik. Accordingly, the motorhome can be picked up not far from the city. There are rental stations directly at Keflavik Airport, which is located a little to the west of the city, so it is advisable to pick up your motorhome immediately after landing. This means that anyone travelling to Iceland in a motorhome can decide exactly where they want to go after pick-up. For one day - or perhaps two - it is certainly a good idea to first travel to the Reykjavik area to familiarise yourself with the vehicle, do some initial shopping for the tour and explore the city, which is well worth seeing. The northernmost capital city in the world is home to around 120,000 Icelanders, more than a third of the country's total population. It is particularly appreciated for its culture. What can you do in Reykjavik? Reykjavik's surroundings offer numerous activities and sights, so you can soon experience that Icelandic feeling in your motorhome. The sights include one of the city's landmarks: Hallgrimskirkja. It is a modern church with striking architecture that offers a breathtaking view of the city. Another highlight is the Harpa Concert Hall, also an architectural highlight, which provides space for concerts, performances and other cultural events. The Laugavegur shopping street is also ideal for a stroll through shops, galleries and cafés, making Reykjavik a good overall package for the start of an Iceland motorhome tour.
