Experience South Africa by motorhome
Whether it's a safari, across the cities or along the coast - for example on the Garden Route: South Africa's different sides have something to offer for pretty much every holiday wish. Fantastic beaches spread across the whole country provide almost paradisiacal opportunities to relax by the sea. If you are looking for a more active holiday, tours and hikes through various national parks, such as the Kruger National Park, are well worthwhile. But many other natural sights are also worth visiting for one or two days each. These include the Drakensberg Mountains, the legendary Cape of Good Hope and Cape Town's "local mountain". Table Mountain should definitely be explored if the metropolis is on your itinerary. Fantastic views of the city and the sea reward the climb.
The ideal way to explore South Africa in a motorhome is without too much time pressure. As is so often the case when travelling, it is a great way to get to know a country if you let yourself drift and experience the country and its people at your own pace. Therefore, make sure you don't take on too much for the time you have planned. Otherwise, the range of landscapes worth seeing and the country's two dozen or so national parks can quickly become overwhelming.

Durban: Surf City & the Gateway to the Zulu Kingdom
Durban is South Africa's tropical playground. Here, the water is always warm, the curry spicy & the vibe relaxed. Start your road trip in KwaZulu-Natal, where wild safaris meet endless golden beaches.
🚐 Why start here?
- Eternal summer: Thanks to the subtropical climate & warm Indian Ocean, Durban is a perfect holiday destination all year round - especially in the South African winter.
- Safari proximity: Unlike in Cape Town, here you can be in the real bush in a flash. The Big Five are just a few hours' drive away.
- Cultural mix: Experience the unique blend of Zulu traditions & Indian heritage (be sure to try a "Bunny Chow"!).
📍 Destinations within striking distance
- Drakensberg: Drive inland to the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park. Spectacular rock faces, hiking trails & ancient rock paintings await you in this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park: The oldest national park in Africa is world-famous for its high density of white rhinos & the Big Five.
- iSimangaliso Wetland Park: A huge wetland area where hippos, crocodiles & whales meet. Here you can combine safari with snorkelling at Cape Vidal.
- Midlands Meander: A relaxed route through the green hinterland with arts and crafts, breweries & charming farm stables - perfect for foodie stops.
👥 Ideal for...
- Water rats: The water here is significantly warmer than on the Cape - ideal for swimming & surfing.
- Adventurers: The combination of high mountains & wild bush is unique in this density.
- Families: The beaches are wide, the sea inviting & the many safari options make the region exciting for all ages.
