Discover Norway by motorhome

Experience Norway by motorhome

Hardly any other country in Europe is as famous for its scenic beauty as Norway. The Scandinavian country attracts many holidaymakers who want to discover Norway by boat, car or motorhome. A total of five pick-up and drop-off points for campervans within the country ensure that this is possible without any problems. You can book a campervan in Norway conveniently online via CU | Camper. In the following, we reveal which highlights should not be missed on a motorhome tour in Norway. Nevertheless, the country's infrastructure is excellent. The road network is particularly favourable for motorhome drivers. Special features include the many tunnels, which are often between five and ten kilometres long. Or the numerous ferries, one of which you are sure to try out on a tour of Norway. The fees for ferry crossings in particular - and also for tolls for possible bridge crossings - should be taken into account in advance when planning your travel budget. These are often based on the weight or length of the vehicle. In addition to the budget, the itinerary should of course also be well planned in advance. Due to the size of the country and the diversity of its landscapes, it is not advisable to explore the entire country on a two- or three-week tour. Instead, it makes more sense to discover Norway's regions bit by bit in a motorhome. These can be roughly divided into three areas: Southern Norway, Central Norway and Northern Norway. While the south of the country is characterised by long beaches and small, dreamy villages, the centre and west of the country is characterised by its diverse landscape. Central Norway, also known as Fjord Norway, has a particularly large number of fjords that attract holidaymakers from all over the world. Between Bergen and Trondheim are many of the most famous. The Geirangerfjord, for example, winds its way through the landscape for fifteen kilometres and offers unique views. There are also incredible views along the Sognefjord. At around two hundred kilometres long, it is also the longest fjord in the country and the second longest in the world. Further north in Norway, nature is still particularly unspoilt. Nevertheless, the road network there is also suitable for motorhomes. If you want to visit the North Cape, you should definitely plan a tour lasting several weeks. It takes a long time to drive from the south or west to the northernmost point of Norway with its famous globe. However, this is sweetened - as it feels everywhere in Norway - by the unique landscapes that pass by.

Lofoten: Dramatic peaks in the sea

For many campers, the Lofoten Islands are the most beautiful holiday destination in the world. This island chain north of the Arctic Circle offers an unreal backdrop: Rugged mountains shoot straight out of the Arctic Ocean, with Caribbean-style beaches & red fishermen's huts in between.

🚐 Why travelling here?

  • The E10 route: The road that connects the islands is one of the most spectacular scenic routes in Europe. A new "wow moment" awaits around every bend.
  • Light shows: The midnight sun in summer, the Northern Lights in winter (and from the end of August) - the light here is magical.
  • Freedom: Even though wild camping has been restricted, there are fantastic campsites right on the white sandy beach that are second to none.

📍 Highlights of the islands

  • Reine: Probably the most famous postcard motif in Norway. The view of the village & fjord from Reinebringen (hike!) or from the bridge is iconic.
  • Henningsvær: The "Venice of Lofoten", spread over several small islands. Famous for its football pitch, which is located on a rocky island in the middle of the sea.
  • Haukland & Uttakleiv: Beaches with white sand & turquoise water that are more reminiscent of the South Seas - if it weren't for the snow-capped peaks in the background.
  • Nusfjord: One of the oldest & best-preserved fishing villages, which looks like a living museum.

👥 Ideal for...

  • Photographers: The Lofoten archipelago is a visual feast. Pack enough memory cards!
  • Hikers: Short but steep climbs lead to views you'll never forget.
  • Anglers: The world championship cod is caught here - you can often fish successfully directly from the shore.
