Experience the USA with a motorhome

Experience the USA by motorhome

If you want to discover the fascinating national parks in the south-west of the USA, you can hire a motorhome from Las Vegas, Los Angeles or San Francisco, for example. From there, you can explore California, Arizona, Utah or New Mexico in particular during a round trip. On the other hand, those who primarily want to visit dream beaches or various theme parks are in the right place at the other end of the country, namely in Florida. The northern regions are also impressive when it comes to finding the right region for a motorhome trip in the USA. In the north-west, there are states that offer unique coastal panoramas. On the other hand, they are home to picturesque wooded and hilly landscapes. Seattle and Washington State are among them, as is California. In the north-east, both New England's nature and some metropolises are real sights. Cities such as New York City, Washington D.C. and Boston speak for themselves. They are also worth visiting as part of a motorhome holiday - especially before or after a round trip. Alaska is a state that scores points for its wilderness. West of Canada - separated from all other US states - this region in the north attracts holidaymakers who want to explore nature far away from civilisation. Hardly anywhere else in the United States can you explore such remote places and majestic mountains and forests - and thus also a diverse animal world. And finally, there is the centre of the United States. Roads, some of them centuries old, run through this region for thousands of kilometres. The historic Route 66 is just one of many routes that inspire dreams. They epitomise the American dream and the pursuit of freedom like no other. Road trips along Highway No. 1 in California are undoubtedly among the classics of motorhome tours in the USA. The winding coastal road leads along picturesque landscapes. No less popular are round trips through national parks such as the Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park or Arches National Park.

Minneapolis: City of Lakes & Gateway to the Great Lakes

Minneapolis (together with its sister city St. Paul, the "Twin Cities") is the unsung heroine of the Midwest. This is where urban chic meets a pronounced love of the outdoors. In the "Land of 10,000 Lakes", you don't start your road trip in the concrete jungle, but in a metropolis characterised by water, parks and a relaxed "Minnesota Nice" mentality.

🚐 Why start here?

  • Shopping paradise: Before the road trip starts, the Mall of America in Bloomington (right by the airport) awaits. It is the largest mall in the USA - including an amusement park inside! And the best thing: in Minnesota, there is no sales tax on clothing & shoes.
  • Water start: You don't even have to leave the city to experience nature. The "Chain of Lakes" offers kilometres of lakeside paths right in the city. Here you can relax and get used to the campervan before heading into the wilderness.
  • Strategic North: Minneapolis is the perfect gateway to the "Upper Midwest". From here you can reach the mighty Lake Superior or start the long trip west to the Badlands & Yellowstone without the traffic of Chicago.

📍 Destinations within striking distance

  • North Shore & Duluth: Drive about 2.5 hours north to Lake Superior. The route on Highway 61 along the world's largest freshwater lake is legendary. Stop at Split Rock Lighthouse & enjoy the ocean feeling in the middle of the continent.
  • Itasca State Park: An absolute must-see for every road tripper: here you can literally walk over stones across the Mississippi River, as this is where its source originates. A magical place in the middle of ancient forests.
  • Great River Road: Drive south along the Mississippi River from the Twin Cities. The route (especially on the Wisconsin side) is hilly, winding & offers spectacular views of the river - perfect for leisurely cruising ("driftless area").
  • Boundary Waters: In the far north on the Canadian border lies one of the wildest canoeing areas in the world. You can get as far as Ely or Grand Marais by campervan - from there you can experience real wilderness, moose & black bears.

👥 Ideal for...

  • Nature lovers: Those looking for forests, countless lakes & unspoilt nature will find their happiness in Minnesota.
  • Families: The combination of Mall of America (Nickelodeon Universe!) & child-friendly campsites by the lakes is unbeatable.
  • Road trip veterans: A route around Lake Superior (Circle Tour) is considered by connoisseurs to be one of the most beautiful routes in North America.
